Kawasaki SC-02 “Soul Charger” Concept Debuts at EICMA

Part of Kawasaki’s future is surely in supercharged motorcycles, as the Japanese manufacturer has debuted its second supercharged concept, in just a month’s time.

You may remember from the Tokyo Motor Show the Kawasaki SC-01 “Sprit Charger” concept, which depicted what many believed would be the next supercharged model from Kawasaki. Now we have the Kawasaki SC-02 “Soul Charger” concept, a model Kawasaki is being very coy about.

Debuted by Mr. Kenji Tomida, President of Kawasaki Motorcycle & Engine Company, the SC-02 “Soul Charger” could be a number of things, and according to Tomida-san “it is a downsize design showing how Kawasaki supercharger technology is scalable.”

But, Tomida goes on to say that Kawasaki hasn’t decided what displacement range the SC-02 would fit into, or even if the model will even come into production.

Kawasaki could very well be fishing for clues from the associated press and consumers that will be at the 2015 EICMA show, though it is equally possible that the concept is a distraction from the lack of new models coming from Kawasaki for the 2016 model year.

Mr. Tomida seemed almost apologetic regarding the 2016 lineup in his address to the EICMA crowd, and promised 12 new models will come from Kawasaki in the 2017 & 2018 model years. Unfortunately, he would not elaborate on what those models would be.

The signs though seem to point to Kawasaki developing more supercharged motorcycles, to which we can only hope they arrive sooner rather than later. The prospect of a forced-induction generation from the Japanese manufacturers is a lurid one, indeed.
